AMC Theatres has purchased Carmike Cinemas in a deal worth $1.1 billion.
This will give the movie theater chain more than 600 theater locations in 45 states, including the one in Sikes Senter Mall.
In a press release issued by AMC, officials from the company said they plan on bringing premium food, drinks and 400 recliner seats to Carmike locations over the next five years.
One moviegoer said the takeover is a good thing. “It’ll bring more people. They’ll keep it nicer and cleaner, and add better seating and a good sound system. I look forward to it personally,” said Chris Bell.
Others hope to see a wider variety of movie choices like more independent films.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and will make AMC the biggest movie theater chain in the world. The company says its goal is to bring the best possible movie experience to more movie-goers than ever before. Officials add they will be welcoming many Carmike employees to their team.
