Fried Twinkies have been a thing for a while, but now they’re a thing that’s going to be on store shelves near you on a regular basis.
The delicacy once reserved as a once-a-year treat during state fairs (and cardiologists were thankful for that) are coming to Walmart. They’ll be partially cooked, frozen and ready for reheating in a frying pan or oven.
The retail chain has an exclusive agreement with Hostess Brands to sell Deep Fried Twinkies for the first three months. After that, people will probably be able to buy them willy-nilly at any corner store.
Cue the “Get off my lawn” guy: “Back in my day, the only place we could find Deep Fried Twinkies was between the teacup ride and the 4-H barn. And that’s the way we liked it!”
That guy is only 29 years old, by the way.
They will be available in two flavors – original and chocolate – and cost $4.76 for a box of seven.
The estimated nutrition content of a single Deep Fried Twinkie (220 calories, 9 grams of fat) is nearly equal to a two-pack of regular Twinkies (270 calories, 9 grams of fat).
