Martina McBride’s next tour is dubbed ‘Love Unleashed,’ a name she came up with as a weapon against the overwhelming arsenal of bad news on television.
“With so much tragedy and uncertainty in the world, our family is watching less news and spending more time listening to music, sharing stories over dinner and loving each other,” says the country star. “I want this concert to be a place where people can share the common experience of music and how it can work its magic, as only music can. A place where we can come together and show our love for each other and head back out into the world a little stronger for having been there.”
McBride’s tour mindset certainly shares sentiment with her latest single. Written by Cary Barlowe, Sarah Buxton and Sam Ellis, “Just Around the Corner” is about overcoming adversity and coming out a stronger person. “Just around the corner/The sun’s a little warmer/The storm is blowing over,” McBride sings.
The song appears on the powerhouse vocalist’s 13th studio album, Reckless, which finds her merging country music with a bit of a “Seventies Linda Ronstadt feel,” as she describes it. Released back in April, Reckless follows 2014’s Everlasting LP of soul and R&B covers. Thus, it’s her first collection of original country material in five years, following 2011’s Eleven. The time between Eleven and Reckless gave McBride a creative reboot.
“Part of it was having a fresh perspective,” she told Rolling Stone Country back in April. “I had five years to step back. I did a lot of things the same way I used to do things: I didn’t write for this album, so I gleaned whatever I could from the amazing songwriters in [Nashville], and I wasn’t under any deadline or any pressure. So I had time to really wait for the right songs to come in and find the right songs that felt authentic to me.”
McBride’s Love Unleashed Tour begins October 14th in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, with dates currently scheduled through December 9th, though more cities are expected to be added soon.
