Miley Cyrus is joining the singing competition The Voice this season as part of the quartet of coaches, and even though she’s most associated with being a pop star, the singer still takes pride in her country roots. In an exclusive new preview of the upcoming season, Cyrus lets veteran coach and country superstar Blake Shelton know that he’ll have a little competition in that area going forward.
Keys opens the clip by saying, “One thing can either inspire a person or break a person. I’m looking forward to rooting people on, and being here for the dreamers like me.”
Perennial coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton return as they have for every season. In the trailer, the four show off some camaraderie as well as some good-natured ribbing.
The seasoned coaches address what the new team members bring to the table. “Miley’s the youthful spirit we’ve been missing,” Levine says of his soon-to-be fellow coach, and Shelton says, “She’s a great performer, but she also has this ear for music.”
Meanwhile, Shelton extolls Keys’ studio chops. “Alicia comes from a place, more like a writer, producer,” he says.
Cyrus teases Shelton about how she’s genre-less and might steal a few country artist hopefuls. She also addresses the new dynamic. “As much as the world likes to make this girl catfight scenario, that’s actually Blake and Adam,” Cyrus says.
Season 11 of The Voice premieres on September 19th.
